Jesse’s Background

Jesse was born in Toronto, Canada on October 5, 1978, to parents Bill and Susan. He and his two younger brothers, Billy and Christian, were raised in a suburb of Ottawa. In this youth, Jesse played football on Canadian club teams before heading off to the University of Florida, where he led the offense as quarterback. He graduated with two undergraduate degrees — a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing. As a senior, he was selected as a team captain and received the Fergie Ferguson Award, which recognizes a football player with outstanding leadership, character and courage. Jesse finished his four-year college career with 3,755 passing yards and was named to the Southeastern Conference academic honor roll multiple times. He went on to play for the New York Giants and the San Francisco 49ers, before ending his football career with the Canadian Football League’s Montreal Alouettes.

In 2004, Jesse was cast as the lead on the reality television show, The Bachelor, during its 26th season. He broke some new ground, being the first non-American, first professional athlete, and at 25, the youngest bachelor in the history of the show. Jesse chose Jessica Bowlin at the end of the series but did not propose (they split a month after the finale aired). In 2021, he was named the permanent host of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette and currently hosts other Bachelor franchises including Bachelor in Paradise, The Golden Bachelor and The Golden Bachelorette.

Jesse began his broadcast career as a football game analyst, having worked on Fox Sports Networks (formally known as Fox Sports Net), SEC Network and the NFL Network. He is currently a college football analyst on ABC/ESPN.

From 2015 to 2017, Jesse was a special contributor to Good Morning America and ABC News before becoming the host of DailyMail TV from 2017 to 2020. Jesse told The Wrap about broadcasting, “It was something I hadn’t planned, I think the good news is that I went into it covering college football, which was definitely in my wheelhouse and comfort zone so it was a natural progression.”

Jesse told EatingWell he swears by fruit, trail mix, protein shakes and dark chocolate squares to stay energized, along with “an espresso or two." Jesse is a “huge coffeehead”, he admitted to GQ — and once drove 40 minutes for an espresso. For a fast fix, he reaches for Greek yogurt with granola and a drizzle of honey, telling EatingWell, “I feel like it’s breakfast, lunch and could be a late-night snack. You can eat it at three or four different times throughout the day.”

Logging lots of flight miles for Food Network, the Bachelor franchise and college football, Jesse jokes he often wears the flight attendants out with the insane amount of water he requests. “I’m just trying to stay as hydrated as possible,” he told GQ. Jesse and his wife Emely Fardo love to eat out in Los Angeles, and he once offered up his favorite romantic restaurants in The Infatuation, which included Matsumoto for sushi, Camphor for burgers, Carlitos Gardel for steak, Fishing with Dynamite for fish tacos and Pizzeria Bianco for pizza.

Jesse’s Family History

Jesse’s father played football for the Ottawa Rough Riders, his mother was a model and co-founder of ITM International Top Models (now known as MIM Model International Management), his brother William (Billy) played tight end for the University of Notre Dame (and now works in insurance) and his brother Christian is in real estate. Jesse (middle name James) shares his name with a well-known outlaw so growing up, his brother William went by the nickname “Billy the Kid” and youngest brother Christian (middle name Wyatt) was known as “Wyatt Earp”. After meeting in a boxing class in New York City in 2017, Jesse married Brazilian photographer and model Emely Fardo on June 5, 2020 at a friend’s house in Connecticut. It was during COVID, and at the time Jesse told People, “Big or small, wedding party or not, we feel so grateful and lucky to have found each other!” The couple had their dream wedding later in France, with Jesse telling Rachael Ray, “I was crying my eyes out the entire time.” Their Australian shepherd and poodle mix is named LouLou and she has her own Instagram page with almost five thousand followers.
