Pillsbury Is Making Cake Mix and Frosting in a Flavor People Can't Seem To Get Enough Of
Pistachio’s popularity shows no sign of letting up.

Pistachio’s migration to the mainstream continues. We’ve seen it everywhere in the form of Dubai chocolate, but Pillsbury is proving the flavor is much more versatile than that. The iconic baking brand is adding pistachio to its lineup of cake mixes and frostings. Not only that, but it’s calling the flavor “timeless” — not trendy.
"Pistachio is one of those timeless flavors that instantly brings people back to the joy of homemade baking," Dan Anglemyer, chief operating officer at Hometown Food Company, which oversees Pillsbury Baking. "With our new Pistachio Cake Mix and Whipped Pistachio Frosting, we're giving families an easy, delicious way to recreate that nostalgic taste in their own kitchens.”
What are Pillsbury’s new pistachio products?
Pillsbury Baking is launching two new pistachio-flavored products.
Pillsbury Moist Supreme Pistachio Cake Mix can be used for birthday cakes, cupcakes, Bundt cakes, cake pops — you name it. It offers “the rich, subtly sweet flavor of pistachio” in a three-step mix. Each 15.25-ounce box yields one 13" x 9" cake or 24 cupcakes.
Pillsbury Whipped Pistachio Frosting, which can be paired with the cake mix or used on other baked items, is “light, fluffy, and ready to use.” Sold in a 12-ounce tub, the frosting is made for easy spreading, decorating, layering or crumb coating, providing bakers with a “smooth” and “airy” frosting that won’t weigh down their cakes, the brand says.
Are we the only ones thinking you could pair the pistachio cake mix with a chocolate frosting or the pistachio frosting with a chocolate cake and call it Dubai chocolate cake? Just wondering.
When and where can you get Pillsbury’s pistachio products?
Both Pillsbury Moist Supreme Pistachio Cake Mix and Pillsbury Whipped Pistachio Frosting are now available at Walmart and H-E-B. The products will roll out to additional retailers, including Kroger and AWG, in February and March.
