This Fan-Favorite Swedish-Style Candy Is Coming To Target
Sockerbit is bringing its sweets to stores nationwide.

Some cultural traditions are just too good not to share around the globe, and one of those might be “lördagsgodis” or “Saturday candy,” a ritual in which Swedes head to candy shops stocked with bins of mix-and-match sweets for a weekend treat. And in recent years, Swedish and Nordic candies have gained a bit of a cult following in the U.S. among both Europeans living in the States and Americans with tastes beyond the traditional convenience store candy aisle. (Salted licorice, anyone?)
Usually, sourcing these international products meant seeking out candy shops with diverse selections or dedicated Swedish-style candy shops like Los Angeles’ Sockerbit. But starting this month, some of Sockerbit’s beloved gummy items and mixes will be available in Target stores nationwide.
Sockerbit, which means “sugar cube” in Swedish, was founded in 2010 by European ex-pats and candy company veterans Florence Baras and Stefan Emberg, a couple who sought to bring a lördagsgodis experience to the United States. They opened their retail store in New York’s West Village with a colorful array of options, and while that location closed in 2020, it was followed up by their current Los Angeles flagship shop near 3rd and Fairfax, plus a robust online shop with dozens of flavors, shapes and gift items.

Sockerbit’s candy collection features sweet, sour and salty treats that contain no artificial colors, no high fructose corn syrup and are non-GMO. All of the sweets in Sockerbit’s candy mixes are manufactured in Europe (Belgium to be exact) and bagged in the U.S. And while the brand has been wholesaling its candy mixes and to specialty stores including World Market and The Paper Store, pulse some Wegmans supermarkets, the Target expansion doubles that footprint and brings Sockerbit’s Swedish-style candy to over 3,000 retailers nationwide.
Here are the Sockerbit candy items you can expect to find in stores and online at Target’s Sockerbit storefront, with descriptions provided in the brand’s announcement:
- Sweet Mix: This sweet candy mix includes a colorful variety of Sockerbit’s most popular Swedish sweet treats.
- Sour Mix: This Sour Swedish candy assortment features a curated mix that is anything but random. Every gummy has a purpose! Expect delicious mouth-puckering flavors, unique textures and playful shapes.
- Sour Cola & Cherry Gummies: Mouth puckering and soft, our mini sour cherry cola bottles are the refreshing snack people crave.
- Sour & Fruity Heart Gummies: With combinations of Sour Apple-Cherry, Sour Cassis-Peach, and Sour Pineapple-Strawberry flavor, our fruity heart gummies will guarantee love at first bite.
- Strawberry Dream Candies: These sugar-sprinkled strawberry foam bites are sweet, delicious and oh so dreamy.

Noticeably missing from the Target collection is any of the controversial salty licorice popular in Scandinavian candy shops. It seems, some traditions take a little longer to catch on.
