Popular demand does it again. General Mills is bringing back a discontinued breakfast cereal people have been clamoring for: Frosted Lemon Cheerios.
“When life gives you lemons… have a bowl of cereal!” the brand says in a press release.
Introduced as a seasonal product in June of 2023, this cereal “delivers a smooth, fresh-squeezed lemon taste that’s light, refreshing, and made for sunny mornings,” according to the brand.
Consumers raved about Frosted Lemon Cheerios from the beginning. One blogger called them “a better, more sophisticated version” of Froot Loops: “Think [Froot] Loops’ older cousin who sometimes buys them alcohol.” And this TikToker, who also got a Froot Loops vibe, described the taste as “subtle” and “surprisingly pleasant.” He expressed hope that Frosted Lemon Cheerios would not stay limited-edition, and he wasn’t alone: People have been asking for their return for two years.
Well, fans will be pleased to know that their wish has been granted — though just for another short time. Frosted Lemon Cheerios are hitting grocery store shelves nationwide this month. One Instagrammer has already spotted them at Walmart. They’ll be available only while supplies last.
And if you do get your hands on a box or two of Frosted Lemon Cheerios this summer, don’t let your cereal bowl be the limit. The brand suggests working the flavor into snacks and desserts, too.
“Whether enjoyed with milk or tossed into your favorite on-the-go trail mix or homemade cereal bar recipe, these fan-favorite frosty O’s are reminiscent of lemonade stands, porch swings and warm summer days,” Cheerios says.
Here's to brighter days — and breakfasts — ahead.
