Chipotle Is Finally Bringing Back Its Margaritas for a Limited Time
Are they coming to your city?
Drink this in: Chipotle is bringing back its long-discontinued margarita in a five-city, Halloween-themed pop-up event series it's calling “Summon the Spirits Tour.”
Wait... Chipotle served margaritas?
Yep. Those who fondly recall an era in which Chipotle served up the classic cocktail have been nostalgic about it for years on social media.
“Am I the only one who remembers?” one TikToker wondered.
Apparently not — because, for a limited time in the run-up to Boorito season at Chipotle, the chain is bringing back the popular alcoholic beverage in five locations.
“Fans never stopped talking about our margaritas after they left the menu, so Halloween felt like the perfect time to revive a Chipotle classic,” Stephanie Perdue, Chipotle’s senior vice president of brand marketing, says in a statement. “For five weekends, we’re giving fans the chance to rediscover the iconic Chipotle Margarita, made with just five real ingredients and the same simplicity we bring to our food.”
What's in the Chipotle Margarita?
It's a classic margarita featuring premium tequila, triple sec, citrus juice, agave nectar and a wedge of fresh lime. On the “Summon the Spirits Tour,” Chipotle is pricing the drink at $6.
What's the history of the Chipotle Margarita?
Chipotle introduced the margarita in 1993 and reformulated the recipe to include only five ingredients in 2013. Eventually, though, margaritas were phased out at most Chipotle locations, apparently leaving those who loved them feeling bereft.
How can you get a Chipotle Margarita?
Every weekend in October, Chipotle will feature a return appearance by the margarita at a restaurant across five different cities: Denver, where the chain was founded, followed by New York, Dallas, Los Angeles and finally (on Halloweekend) New Orleans. Of course, only those 21 and over will be able to enjoy one.
What is the “Summon the Spirits Tour”?
Along with the aforementioned opportunities to sip $6 margaritas from “dedicated margarita bars,” the tour stops within the select restaurants will also feature “pop-up experiences” with “immersive Halloween décor, interactive moments and opportunities to unlock Chipotle prizes.”
The tour will stop at a different Chipotle restaurant every Friday and Saturday throughout October, according to the following schedule:
Stop 1: Denver
“Where the Spirit Began,” this stop will kick off the tour in Chipotle's founding city, “bringing the margarita back to Denver where the brand’s story started.”
When: October 2 and October 3 from 3 to 9 p.m. local time
Where: 2760 S. Colorado Blvd., Denver, Colorado 80222
Stop 2: New York
With a “Spirits in the City,” theme, this stop offers a spirted weekend celebration in “one of the world’s most influential cultural capitals.”
When: October 9 and October 10 from 3 to 9 p.m. local time
Where: 185 Montague St., Brooklyn, NY 11201
Stop 3: Dallas
This stop, “Where Spirits Freeze,” takes place in “the birthplace of the world’s first frozen margarita machine” (who knew?) and will offer a frozen margarita option in addition to the original Chipotle Margarita.
When: October 16 and October 17 from 3 to 9 p.m. local time
Where: 2401 Victory Park Lane, Dallas, TX 75219
Stop 4: Los Angeles
They’re calling the Hollywood stop “Summon the Stars,” for reasons that are obvious.
When: October 23 and October 24 from 3 to 9 p.m. local time
Where: 7660 W. Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90046
Stop 5: New Orleans
The final stop, which takes place on Halloweekend, is called “Where Spirits Never Rest” because it's happening “in one of America’s most famously haunted cities.”
When: October 30 and October 31 from 3 to 9 p.m. local time
Where: 2801 Magazine St., New Orleans, LA 70115
When is the Boorito coming back?
Chipotle is also bringing back the Boorito for another year on October 31. This year, the annual Halloween tradition will feature an in-restaurant entree offer; details about the celebration are forthcoming later in October.
