I Tried Popeyes' New Honey Chicken Biscuit, and Here Are My Thoughts

Fast food fans may have their favorite menu items, but they’re also not afraid to mix and mash things up, whether it’s dipping french fries in a chocolate shake or putting chicken, beef, and fish on the same sandwich.
This week, Popeyes is giving those more experimental diners a helping hand by doing some of the work for them. Starting today, the chicken chain is offering its first-ever sandwich made on a classic Popeyes biscuit.
What is Popeyes' Honey Chicken Biscuit sandwich?
Popeyes' new chicken biscuit sandwich puts a piece of fried chicken between the halves of a sliced biscuit and tops it with honey sauce. Apparently, the Honey Chicken Biscuit was inspired by social media trends, including customers sharing their own combinations of Popeyes menu items, with the brand simply taking the reins when it comes to sticking them in one sandwich. However, Popeyes hasn’t taken all of the DIY out of the equation, as the biscuit comes with two “sachets” of honey sauce meant to be drizzled in, on, or around the sandwich however customers want.
But about that biscuit: The announcement from Popeyes describes it as “a larger version of our iconic buttermilk biscuit.” How much larger? Well, the brand promises the sandwich is hefty enough for “two hands required.”
“At Popeyes, quality and bold flavor guide everything we do, and we're always looking for new ways to bring our most iconic items together,” Matt Rubin, Popeyes Chief Marketing Officer, says. “The Honey Chicken Biscuit is exactly that: our craveable chicken, our iconic buttermilk biscuit, and sweet honey sauce, crafted into one new sandwich. It's simple, it's unmistakably Popeyes, and it shows the kind of culinary care that turns flavors people already love into something entirely new.”
What does Popeyes' Honey Chicken Biscuit sandwich taste like?
I tried the Honey Chicken Biscuit last week ahead of its official launch, and when I say it just tasted like Popeyes chicken and honey on a biscuit, I mean that as a compliment. The larger, sliced, salty, buttery biscuit is the perfect delivery vehicle for a crispy Popeyes chicken breast filet (which, if you’re a Popeyes kind of person, you know needs no notes). The honey sauce (which, to be clear, is basically just honey, but not pure honey) offers that sweet counterpart to all of the savory elements, akin to chicken and waffles. It’s substantial enough that it's definitely giving breakfast sandwich vibes, even if it’s not officially breakfast.
When is Popeyes' Honey Chicken Biscuit Sandwich available?
The Popeyes Honey Chicken Biscuit is available beginning Monday, September 28 at participating restaurants nationwide. The biscuit sandwiches will retail for $5, though prices may vary by location. As of this writing, it is intended to be a permanent addition to the menu.
