America’s obsession with pumpkin spice has officially reached new heights. What began as a now beloved Starbucks drink flavor and comforting candle scent has blossomed into a craze that’s showing no signs of slowing down.
In fact, recent data suggests that while Gen Z can’t get behind millennial trends such as skinny jeans and side parts, they’ve got a soft spot for pumpkin spice. According to a nationwide Google survey, more than 50 percent of Gen Z respondents are obsessed with all things pumpkin spice. Additionally, 60 percent say that pumpkin spice is their fall jam, while an ultra-devoted 10 percent crave the flavor all year long.
That’s why it should come as no surprise that the latest food to get pumpkin spice-ified is pretty unusual. As The Honey Baked Ham Company just announced, they have officially launched a new Pumpkin Spice Glazed Turkey Breast, or PSG TB for those in the know.
Per a press release, The Honey Baked Ham Company created PSG TB by combining “a pumpkin spice flavor with its signature glaze to bring a new sweet and crunchy topping to the popular turkey breast offering.”
The fall-inspired meat product is available roasted or smoked, fully cooked, pre-sliced and ready to serve. It can be purchased at HoneyBaked locations (excluding California) through October 31, while supplies last.
As with many pumpkin spice products, this unusual one was seemingly driven by customer demand. The Honey Baked Ham Company partnered with OnePoll to better understand what consumers are looking for. The data showed, among other things, that 69 percent of respondents agree fall has the best seasonal flavors, while 70 percent of those polled agree pumpkin spice is an essential part of the fall season. Additionally, 65 percent of those surveyed said pumpkin spice flavors should be available August through October.
“The data proves America's affinity for all things fall, especially the flavors and traditions that make it a favorite time of year,” Jo Ann Herold, chief marketing officer at The Honey Baked Ham Company said in a statement. “We added pumpkin spice to our signature glaze to bring two fall flavors together in a delicious combination creating our Pumpkin Spice Glazed Turkey Breast.”
