Pass on the artificial syrups and instead cook down some fresh strawberries for big berry flavor. Malt powder adds a little salty-sweet umami nuance without overshadowing the berries.
Simmer the strawberries in a saucepan with the sugar and 2 tablespoons water, stirring, until thickened, 6 to 8 minutes. Let cool.
Transfer the mixture to a blender and add the ice cream, malt powder, milk and freeze-dried strawberries; blend until smooth. Divide between 2 glasses.
Top each milkshake with whipped cream, malted milk powder, crushed freeze-dried strawberries and a fresh strawberry.
