Improvisation & Personal Inspiration

Host Jesse Palmer welcomes 16 of America's top pastry chefs to the most intense baking competition ever. First, the chefs are split into two groups and tasked with creating a dessert that is centered around assigned flavor profiles -- sweet, salty, sour, or bitter -- combined with a specific texture. Each baker must craft an elevated plated dessert in their signature style inspired by their assigned profile. After each round, two bakers are eliminated, leaving 12 to advance to the master challenge. In this round, the remaining chefs must create a dessert inspired by the roots of their baking journey for judges Duff Goldman and Sherry Yard. In the end, two additional chefs are eliminated.

The Tryouts

Twelve young sibling teams step into the pastry school style kitchen and learn that they must try out for their spot in the competition. Hosts and judges Duff Goldman and Kardea Brown put the teams through two rounds of skills challenges to assess which 10 teams will move on and which two teams will be eliminated before the competition even starts! In the first skills test, the nervous teams put up their best cupcake. For the second skills test, the teams must create a pie from scratch that's good enough to prove they have what it takes to compete. First impressions are everything, and in the end, two teams do not make it through the tryouts.
