Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres go hand and hand in every country. Today, Sara explores cocktail cuisines of the world. Recipes: Fried Sardines; Taramosalata (Fish Roe Spread); Herring and Cheese Canapes; Swedish Meatballs; Pickled Cucumbers
The junior chefs are instructed to make dishes that their dads would really like, to be judged by chefs Scott Conant and Tre Wilcox alongside pro skateboarder Tony Hawk. The mystery basket ingredients include chicken wings and blue cheese in the appetizer round, then enormous sandwiches in the second round and a big surprise for dessert!
The young cooks tackle baskets of leftover and often-wasted food, starting with cheese rinds and takeout leftovers in the appetizer round. Then, they find some unwanted produce that must be worked into an entree. For dessert, the finalists find creative uses for forgotten fruit and baking leftovers to win over judges Amanda Freitag, Sam Kass and Marc Murphy.
The chefs hash it out over mac and cheese loaf and one chef's appetizer is a cut above the rest. Popcorn spices things up in the entree round where all three chefs struggle to marry some unusual ingredients. In the dessert round, the proof is in the butterscotch pudding as the chefs mirror each other's desserts.
Cocktails are an easy way to entertain. Sara will arrange drinks, hors d'oeuvres and flowers, too, with the help of a guest from Belle Fleur. Smoked Salmon Mousse; Bread Cups; Deviled Eggs; Herbed Goat Cheese
