While the Recruits cook, one must work through excruciating pain when she gets a taste of the real dangers facing professional chefs daily. The two final Recruits work tirelessly in a professional kitchen to determine who will be named the winner of the Worst Cooks in America and win $25,000.
The new recruits enter boot camp with dreams of becoming great chefs, but their dreams become nightmares when they see photos of their culinary failures mounted on their stations. To start off, mentors Anne Burrell and Rachael Ray have the recruits cook their signature dishes so that they can assess their skills in the kitchen. Then, the recruits dive headfirst into a main dish challenge where they must cook shrimp and live lobster. The recruits with the least successful dishes on each team will be sent home.
Harold Dieterle's Italian-American upbringing initially inspired him to be a chef. His first kitchen memories are of learning to prepare traditional Sicilian Sunday suppers from his mother while growing up on Long Island. After high school, he traveled to Spain and had the opportunity to work in some of the country's top kitchens. Upon his return to the US, he was accepted to the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. Harold and his business partner Alicia Nosenzo own and operate three pillars of the West Village restaurant scene: Perilla, a critically acclaimed New American restaurant; Kin Shop, devoted to contemporary Thai cuisine and inspired by Harold's frequent trips to Thailand; and The Marrow, opened in 2012 and focused on contemporary German and Italian fare inspired by Harold's heritage. Harold is the inaugural winner of Bravo's Top Chef series.
