Build-your-own taco night is a go-to family meal for a reason: It’s an easy, inexpensive, reliable crowd pleaser, able to satisfy picky eaters and voracious feeders alike. Chipotle has just offered up a way to make family taco night even simpler: The restaurant chain is introducing something it’s calling “Build-Your-Own Chipotle.”
What is “Build-Your-Own Chipotle,” you ask? It’s basically a family- or small-gathering-friendly, customizable, shareable meal spread you can order online and have ready for pickup in as little as 15 minutes.
“‘Build-Your-Own Chipotle’ is served with large family-style portions of each ingredient, ensuring groups of four to six people can create any bowl, salad or soft taco to their liking and dietary preferences,” the brand explains in a press release, adding that it “opens up opportunities to create new items, such as nachos.”
Each order comes with your choice of one protein (chicken, steak, braised beef barbacoa, carnitas or Sofritas), one rice (white or brown), one bean (black or pinto) and one “premium” side (guac or Queso Blanco).
You can also choose three salsas and/or toppings from the following options: sour cream, tomatillo-red chili salsa, tomatillo-green chili salsa, roasted chili-corn salsa and fresh tomato salsa.
The order will also include shredded romaine lettuce and cheese, two large bags of chips, eight soft taco tortillas, and forks, napkins and bowls for six people.
You can augment the spread with a separate order of two large bags of chips and three large sides — perfect to bulk up the meal for hardy eaters.
“For the first time ever, guests can use our digital ordering channels, the Chipotle app and Chipotle.com, to bring a personalized Chipotle makeline to their kitchen with just a few taps,” Curt Garner, Chipotle’s president, chief strategy and technology officer, says in a statement. “This is an innovation that brings people together around the food they love.”
Chris Brandt, Chipotle’s president, chief brand officer, adds that the new ‘Build-Your-Own Chipotle’ concept is ideal for families as they return to their back-to-school routines, offering quality, ease and value for weeknight meals.
To encourage people to try it, the brand is offering $10 off ‘Build-Your-Own Chipotle’ orders that are placed through the Chipotle app and Chipotle.com using the code TRYBYOC. The offer is valid from Tuesday, August 26 through Tuesday, October 21 or until it has been redeemed 500,000 times — whichever comes first.
For bigger groups of 10 or more, Chipotle offers catering via a Chipotle app Group Order feature that offers you the option to create a shareable link for your guests to add their meal choices. You can then submit everyone’s selections as a single pick-up or delivery order.
The new meal ordering method is available exclusively on digital orders starting Tuesday, August 26.
Brandt says the chain is trying to find ways to make it easier for people to “Groupotle.” How cute — and convenient — is that?
