Calling all budget-minded, protein-prioritizing sandwich lovers. Subway is offering a deal on Protein Pockets, a menu item it introduced in January.

The special offer is pegged to the Lyrid meteor shower. The celestial event — which, NASA explains, comes each year when Earth passes by “debris left behind by Comet Thatcher” — peaks late at night on April 21 and into the wee hours of April 22. Subway’s “meatier” deal (get it?) on the protein-packed menu item is a bargain.

What are Subway’s Protein Pockets?

They’re basically super-meaty, “grab-and-go” wraps. Each Protein Pocket features a “toasty wheat” soft tortilla stuffed with one of four protein options, along with “hand-chopped” vegetables and a “fan-favorite” sauce.

The four Protein Pockets combinations are Baja Chicken, Peppercorn Ranch Chicken, Italian Trio and Turkey & Ham. Each Protein Pocket offers more than 20 grams of protein. (For context, most adults are advised to eat between 75 and 100 grams per day.) They were priced at $3.99 apiece when they debuted earlier this year.

What is Subway’s new Protein Pocket deal?

On April 21, as the meteor shower nears its peak, Subway is offering two Protein Pockets for $6. (I’m no mathlete, but that’s 99 cents off each Protein Pocket, or very close to $2 savings overall.) You can get the two-for-$6 deal when you order through the Subway app or online using the code 246MEATIER. Or, the brand says, “ask your Sandwich Artist for the promotion at your local Subway.”

Are there any other Subway offers right now?

Yes, but while the aforementioned Protein Pocket deal is open to anyone, this one applies only to those who manage to find a Lyrid meteorite. If you’re the lucky first person to spot one and submit proof (at ifoundameatier.com) that it’s a legit Lyrid meteorite, you’ll get to eat at Subway for free until the Lyrid Meteor Shower returns in April 2027.

“We’re once again celebrating the Lyrid Meteor Shower in the only way Subway knows how, by making a homophone a great deal,” Dave Skena, Subway’s chief marketing officer, North America, says in a statement. “Enjoy 40 grams of freshly sliced protein for $6 and keep your eyes peeled, because finding a Lyrid meteorite earns you something better than fame and notoriety: you’re getting freshly made, delicious and free Subway for a Year.”
