While an electric or gas stove is no doubt the workhorse of any kitchen, few kitchen appliances earn their counter space as much as a good griddle. Whether you're flipping pancakes for a crowd, crisping bacon without babysitting a skillet, or knocking out grilled sandwiches in batches, a griddle turns what could be a multi-pan juggling act into a single, streamlined cooking surface.

But not all electric griddles are built the same. Some prioritize size, while others focus on precision, portability or versatility. To find the best electric griddles, we tested a range of models, from minis to extra-large flat tops to multi-use grill combos.

How We Tested

To determine the best electric griddles, we started by ordering 20 well-reviewed griddles of different shapes, sizes and price points. Once they arrived, we unboxed each griddle, read through the manual and assembled them. We paid close attention to build quality, weight and how intuitive it felt to set up.

Fried Egg Test: To evaluate nonstick performance, we cooked two eggs directly on the surface with minimal added fat. This test revealed how well the coating performed with delicate foods based on whether the eggs released cleanly or stuck.

Pancake Test: To find out how evenly the griddle heated, we cooked multiple pancakes, noting how many would fit, and observed how evenly they browned. Pancakes were a great visual indicator of hot and cold spots and showed how well the griddle maintains heat.

Bacon Test: We covered the surface with strips of bacon to evaluate rendering, evenness and grease management. This test highlighted how well the griddle handles fatty foods and whether grease drains effectively into a drip tray.

Hamburger Test: For high-heat performance, we cooked standard ground beef patties to see how well each griddle could brown and develop a crust. We also toasted buns on the surface to do an additional check for hot and cold spots.

What We Don't Like
  1. Grease tray is on the smaller side
  2. Preheat indicator can be unclear

This extra-large electric griddle from Drew Barrymore's Beautiful line strikes a rare balance between style, performance and price. It features a generous 12-by-22-inch cooking surface, a stainless-steel backsplash to help contain splatter, and a premium nonstick coating that feels noticeably more high-end than most griddles in this category. Thoughtful details like stay-cool handles, a removable drip tray, and 10 color options make it feel more considered than your average utilitarian appliance. It's also backed by a two-year warranty, which adds a bit of peace of mind.

In testing, this griddle delivered consistently strong results across the board, unlike any other griddle. Eggs released cleanly with zero sticking, and pancakes cooked evenly with no visible hotspots. Bacon browned evenly and cooked up nicely, though we did have to manually tilt the surface slightly to encourage grease to fully drain the tray. Burgers developed a solid sear in about eight minutes total, and buns toasted evenly without any noticeable hot or cold zones. Heat distribution was amazingly even throughout, and cleanup is as easy as a quick wipe with a damp paper towel.

  1. Material Aluminum with ceramic nonstick coating, stainless steel backsplash

  2. Compact, space-saving design
  3. Lightweight and easy to store
  4. Even heating with no major hot spots
What We Don't Like
  1. No drip tray for grease management
  2. Smaller cooking surface limits capacity
  3. Lower heat output can lead to longer cook times

At a rock-bottom price, this compact crepe maker from Nutrichef doubles as a simple electric griddle that's surprisingly capable for its size. It features an 11.5-inch nonstick aluminum cooking surface with a PTFE-free coating and a lightweight plastic base that keeps the whole unit easy to move and store. There are no bells and whistles, just a single adjustable temperature and a flat cooking surface. It's small enough to tuck into a cabinet without a second thought, making it a great option for tight kitchens or anyone who doesn't want another bulky appliance taking over their counter.

Despite being designed to be a crepe maker, this griddle is surprisingly effective at cooking other foods. Eggs released cleanly without sticking, and pancakes browned evenly. Bacon crisped nicely, but with no drip tray, the rendered fat stays on the surface and needs to be wiped away manually. Burgers took the longest (nearly 20 minutes) but still developed a decent sear thanks to the consistent heat. Overall, it doesn't get as hot or cook as quickly as larger, more powerful griddles, but it makes up for it with reliable, even heating and a low price point that's hard to beat.

  1. Material Aluminum with PTFE-free nonstick coating; plastic housing
  2. Dimensions 12-inch diameter (11.5-inch cooking surface), 3 inches tall

  2. High max temperature with strong searing capability
  3. Dual heat zones for cooking multiple foods at once
  4. LCD screen to adjust temperature precisely
  5. Premium build quality with protective lid
What We Don't Like
  1. Center pooling affects grease drainage
  2. Large and bulky
  3. Higher price point

If you're cooking for a crowd, this is the kind of griddle that can handle anything you have in mind. Like the other griddles developed by Blackstone, the Blackstone E-Series delivers a massive cooking surface with a premium build. This version is electric and designed for tabletop use, featuring a ceramic-coated titanium cooktop, stainless steel components and a solidly built glass lid for coverage. It also features dual heat zones and a sleek LCD display, giving you precise control over temperature across a seriously spacious surface. Unlike smaller griddles, this griddle is hefty, sturdy and meant to stay put.

When it came to cooking, the griddle showed off its power and capacity right away. We were able to cook eight large pancakes with no sticking, and they browned evenly and quickly. Eggs also cooked cleanly, though the whites tended to drift slightly toward the center of the surface. Burgers were a highlight, developing a crisp, well-browned sear in just three minutes per side with no sticking issues. Heat-up time was relatively quick, reaching 450°F in about seven minutes, and the temperature remained steady throughout cooking. The only drawback is that we noticed some pooling in the center of the griddle, which kept fat from fully draining into the drip tray.

  1. Material Ceramic-coated titanium cooking surface; stainless steel and plastic components; glass lid
  2. Dimensions 24 x 20.25 x 7.25 inches
  3. Weight 22 pounds 12 ounces

What We Like
  1. Ultra-compact size
  2. Extremely easy to use
  3. Very affordable
  4. Even heating with no noticeable hot spots
What We Don't Like
  1. Limited capacity
  2. No temperature controls
  3. Lid gets hot and can be tricky to handle

The Dash Mini Maker is about as small and simple as an electric griddle gets. With a four-inch cooking surface and a footprint that barely takes up more space than a coffee mug, it's designed for tight kitchens, dorm rooms or anyone who just needs to cook one thing at a time. The build is lightweight, with a plastic exterior and nonstick-coated aluminum cooking surface. Operation couldn't be easier: Just plug it in, and it heats up. There are no temperature controls, no extra features and no learning curve.

Though it has limits, the Dash Mini still performed surprisingly well. The cooking surface heated evenly with no noticeable hotspots, and pancakes browned consistently (though you can only make one at a time). Eggs cooked through properly, but the small surface made flipping a bit tricky. Due to its size, larger tests like burgers or bacon weren't practical, though you could probably fit a single slider on the compact surface. The lid gets quite hot during use, and the compact design leaves little room to grip it safely, which is something to be mindful of. Still, for the price and size, it delivers reliable results and is about as foolproof as it gets.

What We Like
  1. Extremely durable cast-iron cooking surface
  2. Excellent heat retention and even heat distribution
  3. Long 5-year warranty
  4. Can go from cooking surface to serving piece
What We Don't Like
  1. Requires seasoning for best performance
  2. Heavier and harder to move or store
  3. Requires more careful cleaning and maintenance

If you're after durability and high-heat performance over convenience, this cast-iron griddle from Hamilton Beach stands out from the pack. Unlike most electric griddles that rely on lightweight aluminum and nonstick coatings, this model features a solid cast-iron cooking surface that's built to last. The base is a mix of plastic and aluminum, but the real star is the heavy, heat-retentive cooktop. It also includes a removable drip tray and a generous five-year warranty. At 22 pounds, it's not exactly easy to move around, but the integrated handles make it possible to bring it straight to the table for serving.

In testing, it behaved exactly how you'd expect cast iron to. It was slower to heat but blazing hot at full temp. In the first round, eggs stuck slightly to the unseasoned surface, but after repeating the test later, the eggs released easily. Pancakes cooked quickly (under four minutes) with little variation in color or consistency. Burgers were a highlight, searing quickly and evenly in about four minutes total with excellent crust development. Heat distribution was extremely even, thanks to the thick cast iron, and it retained well, no matter what we put on it. That said, it can run very hot, so there's less margin for error compared to nonstick models. This griddle requires a little prep but pays it back with performance and durability.

  1. Material Cast-iron cooking surface; plastic and aluminum base
  2. Dimensions 10 x 16-inch cooking surface, 4.5 inches tall
  3. Weight 22 pounds
  4. Maximum Temperature 450°F

What We Like
  1. Versatile 3-in-1 design with grill and griddle functionality
  2. Dual-zone cooking allows for multitasking
  3. Compact size compared to other combo units
  4. Dishwasher-safe plates for easier cleaning
  5. Good everyday performance across a range of foods
What We Don't Like
  1. Setup and assembly can be a bit tricky
  2. Doesn’t reach the same high heat as larger griddles
  3. Build quality feels lighter than premium models

This compact three-in-one model from Hamilton Beach is designed for versatility, offering reversible plates that function as both a flat and a ridged grill. Each side operates as its own cooking zone, so you can make pancakes on one half and grill sausages or burgers on the other. The aluminum plates are coated with a PFOA-free nonstick surface, and the unit includes a removable drip tray and dishwasher-safe plates for easier cleanup. At just under eight pounds, it's also more manageable than most combo units and can be stored on its side in a cabinet when not in use.

In testing, this model proved to be a flexible, everyday workhorse. The dual-zone setup makes it easy to cook multiple components at once without juggling pans, and the temperature range is enough to handle everything from eggs to burgers. Food released cleanly from the nonstick surface, and the grill side added some nice texture and browning when used for meat. Heat distribution was generally even across both plates, and the unit held temperature well throughout cooking. The setup proved to be slightly tricky, and the plate assembly and bracket system take some effort to get into place. Once assembled, though, this is a great pick for anyone looking for a more affordable combo griddle.

  1. Material Aluminum plates with PTFE nonstick coating; plastic and metal base
  2. Dimensions 20 x 10 x 3.5 inches
  3. Weight 7 pounds 10 ounces
  4. Maximum Temperature 425°F
  5. Drip Tray? Yes

What We Like
  1. High-quality ceramic nonstick coating with excellent release
  2. Interchangeable plates for grill and griddle versatility
  3. Large total cooking capacity across dual surfaces
  4. Dishwasher-safe plates and drip tray
  5. Premium build quality with thoughtful design features
What We Don't Like
  1. Slower to develop sear on meats
  2. Slightly uneven cooking between center and edges
  3. Higher price point

If you want a grill/griddle combo that feels like a serious upgrade, the GreenPan Elite delivers on both performance and build quality. It features interchangeable grill and griddle plates with a ceramic nonstick coating that's free of PFAS, PFOA, lead and cadmium. It also has a hinged lid that allows you to cook sandwiches pressed between the two sides or as a wide-open griddle. With dishwasher-safe plates, a removable drip tray and an ultra-compact footprint, this item is well worth the splurge.

Thanks to GreenPan's notoriously high-performance ceramic coating, eggs and pancakes released cleanly from the surface with no sticking. When opened fully, the griddle accommodated eight pancakes or 12 slices of bacon at a time. Grease drained well into the drip tray so that burgers could develop char without getting soggy. Heat distribution was even enough overall, though it struggled to maintain peak searing heat for extended periods. Still, for everyday cooking, low-smoke indoor grilling and premium panini-making, it performed consistently and felt like one of the most polished options in the lineup.

  1. Material Aluminum plates with ceramic nonstick coating; plastic base
  2. Dimensions 13 x 14 x 7 inches tall
  3. Weight 17 pounds
  4. Maximum Temperature 500°F

What to Consider When Buying an Electric Griddle

Capacity and Size: Electric griddles range from single-serving minis to extra-large surfaces that can feed a whole party in one go. If you're cooking for a family or looking to save time, choose a cooking surface that's at least 10 by 16 inches. Smaller models are great for tight spaces, but they'll require more rounds of cooking. Also consider that oversized griddles can dominate your counter or cabinet, while compact or foldable models are much easier to tuck away.

Material and Coating: Most electric griddles are aluminum with a nonstick coating, which heats quickly and makes cleanup easy. Ceramic coatings are often marketed as nontoxic alternatives and tend to release food well, though they can cook slightly cooler than traditional nonstick. Cast iron offers a durable alternative that comes with excellent heat retention and searing power, though it requires seasoning and more involved maintenance. Each material has trade-offs, so it comes down to whether you prioritize convenience or durability.

Features: The best electric griddles go beyond a flat cooking surface. A removable drip tray helps manage grease, especially when cooking bacon or burgers. Adjustable temperature controls are key for versatility and allow you to precisely dial in the heat needed. Some models include dual-zone heating, letting you cook different foods at different temperatures simultaneously. Grill/griddle combos add even more flexibility, while extras like backsplashes or warming drawers are fun extras that can make cooking all that much easier.

Care and Maintenance: For the average nonstick-coated griddle, a simple wipe with a damp cloth or paper towel will remove most of the grease. Top-quality griddles are made with dishwasher-safe parts to make life even easier. Cast iron requires a bit more attention, but no more than any other cast-iron pan. No matter the material, avoid using metal utensils and abrasive scrubbers to extend the life of the cooking surface.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between an electric griddle and an electric skillet?

An electric griddle is flat and open, giving you more surface area for cooking multiple items at once. An electric skillet has higher sides and functions more like a frying pan, making it better for sautéing, simmering, shallow-frying or even braising.

Are electric griddles good for pancakes?

They're one of the best tools for the job. The large, flat surface lets you cook many pancakes at once, and consistent heat helps them brown evenly without hot spots. If you regularly make breakfast for more than one or two people, a griddle is a major upgrade.

What can you cook on an electric griddle?

Pancakes, eggs, bacon and French toast are obvious choices, but griddles are also great for burgers, grilled cheese, quesadillas, vegetables and even reheating leftovers. Higher-powered models can handle searing for big batches of fajitas or an at-home hibachi night.

Do electric griddles need oil?

Most nonstick griddles don't require oil to prevent sticking, but using a small amount can improve browning and flavor. Cast-iron griddles, on the other hand, do benefit from oil to maintain seasoning and prevent sticking.

How do you use an electric griddle as a warming tray?

To use the griddle as a warming tray, set the temperature to its lowest setting and place cooked food on it while you finish other components. Some griddles include a dedicated warming zone, drawer or setting, but even basic models can hold food at serving temperature without overcooking it.

Other Electric Griddles We Tested

We tested several other electric griddles that performed well but didn't earn a top spot. The Ninja Griddle stood out for its versatility and strong nonstick performance, but the griddle size was limiting for such a bulky appliance.

The Bella Ceramic Fold-N-Store Dual-Temp Griddle impressed with its space-saving design and dual heating zones, though its lower max heat limited its ability to sear deeply and slowed down cooking overall.

We also tested another GreenPan griddle, which proved to have disappointing results compared to the multi-grill/griddle model.
