When you're in the grocery store and can't decipher between halloumi and Havarti, just remember this little phrase--"The flavors pair well if in the same country they dwell." Meaning, it's best to pair things from the same area/region when building your meat and cheese board.

For example, pair the classic flavors of Italy, such as prosciutto and Parmesan cheese. Prosciutto is unctuous and buttery and pairs well with the sharpness of Parmesan. We also suggest a paring from Spain--chorizo with traditional manchego. The spice of the sausage works as a great contrast to the sweet creamy nuttiness of manchego cheese.

Our perfect cheese board isn't done yet. We need to "Add a jam and a Bam!" Adding something sweet and something spicy will round out your meat and cheese board. Sweet and spicy pepper jam, spicy mustard and sweet fig jam are perfect complements to salty meats and cheeses.

Finally, "Crust is a must!" To really elevate your cheese board, instead of the same old boring crackers, put out crusty bread instead. Crunchy French or Italian breads work great with charcuterie. A meat and cheese board like this is the most delicious way to hold off a crowd until dinner is served.
