Mountain Dew fans are seriously committed to their drink — no doubt about that. Now they can be equally dedicated to their … hot sauce?

Yep, the citrus-y caffeinated soda now comes in hot sauce form, albeit, at least for now, in a very limited quantity.

MTN DEW has partnered with Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid (reputedly a major hot-sauce devotee) and Houston-based hot sauce purveyor iBurn to introduce the soft drink brand’s first foray into hot sauce.

The Habanero-flavored sauce, which was chosen by fans over three other flavors in a social media poll, will be produced in limited quantity — only 500 bottles in total — and will be available only to a select number of lucky fans who participate in a social-media promotion by sharing what they would put it on. Chosen fans will then be “surprised with a bottle,” according to a brand spokesperson.

So, yeah, the scarcity is kind of a bummer, but are we crazy to think MTN DEW hot sauce, which is purported to feature “the distinct citrus flavor that DEW fans know and love,” could be an idea that sticks?

“I’m always looking for that extra kick of spice when I put hot sauce on my food,” said Embiid.

The NBA All-Star was, the brand maintains, intimately involved with the development of the spicy new sauce, whose bottle label features his face — with fire coming out of his head and mouth.

“We sampled so many different flavors, spices and peppers while making the sauce. It was crazy!” Embiid said. “I think people will agree that there is no other hot sauce like this.”

Perhaps in time, more than 500 lucky fans will have a chance to taste it and judge for themselves. Who thinks that’s at least possible? We DEW.
