Dunkin’ Drops Some Devilish Fun with Its New Ghost Pepper Donut
This Halloween, the doughnut chain is putting a little trick in its treat.

Dunkin’ has just unveiled a new limited-time-only Halloween-themed doughnut that appears to be both a treat and, potentially, a trick: a new Spicy Ghost Pepper Donut, that looks sweet but stealthily delivers heat.
The spicy doughnut, available at participating restaurants nationwide now until December, has a classic yeast-ring base (so far, conventional), but tops it with a strawberry-flavored icing that also features a bracing combination of cayenne and ghost pepper (eek!). A dusting of red sugar gives the doughnut a “sizzling look,” Dunkin’ contends.
The company is also encouraging customers to “show their own spicy side” by sneaking their friends a Spicy Ghost Pepper Donut and then snapping a picture of the pals’ alarmed reactions and posting the pics on social media using the hashtag #DunkinSpicySide.

The pepper-packing pastry is only one of Dunkin’s Halloween offerings this year. For those who’d prefer not to shock their taste buds — or those of their friends — with unexpected heat, the chain is also offering a Halloween DIY Dunkin’ Donut Decorating Kit; each includes plain yeast or Old Fashioned cake donuts along with packets of orange, white and black icing and three kinds of sprinkles. The “creepy-crawly” — and frankly cute — Spider Donut (a classic ring with orange icing topped with a spider made of a glazed chocolate Munchkin, chocolate drizzle and white-icing) is also back on the menu for a limited time while supplies last.
“We’re excited to show our spicy side with a donut that packs a touch of heat with something sweet and can be enjoyed any time of day,” Jill Nelson, vice president, marketing strategy at Dunkin’, said in a news release. “With our scary-good lineup of the Spicy Ghost Pepper Donut, Halloween DIY Dunkin’ Donut Decorating Kits and fan-favorite Spider Donut, Dunkin’ is here to help our guests keep their Halloween spirit alive this season.”
