The TikTok-famous Dirty Soda trend has been with us for years and isn’t showing any sign of letting up. Brands including Dr Pepper and Coffee Mate have hopped on the bandwagon. Just last week, bakery chain Crumbl got in on the dirty soda action, introducing its own customized lineup of the popular non-alcoholic beverages.
Now Mountain Dew is getting in on it. Dirty Mountain Dew Cream Soda is headed our way.
What is dirty soda?
It’s an endlessly customizable soft drink mixed with cream or half-and-half, or flavored syrup, fruit juice or puree. The mocktail-adjacent drink trend may have originated in Utah – popularized by residents who are religiously prohibited from drinking coffee, tea or alcohol. But thanks, in part, to TikTok virality, the trend has spread far and wide.
What is Dirty Mountain Dew Cream Soda?
The soda brand says its new, “boldest” flavor, which will come in bottles and cans and in both regular and “zero sugar” versions, “mixes the iconic citrus kick of Mountain Dew with a smooth cream flavor twist, delivering a distinctive and indulgent taste.”
When is Mountain Dew releasing its dirty soda?
Set to make its debut this month at the NACS convenience store trade show, the boundary-pushing beverage will roll out nationwide in early 2026. And it sounds entirely possible that other Mountain Dew dirty soda iterations may follow. Dirty Mountain Dew Cream Soda is the “first” flavor in a “portfolio to meet emerging consumer demands in the growing category,” the brand says.
The brand says via email that dirty sodas “evoke a premium consumption experience” and are especially popular with Gen Z, meaning those born between the mid-1990s and the mid-2010s. That generation’s embrace of the category reflects its desire for “flavor-forward, customizable beverages.” Dirty sodas are, Mountain Dew says, “here to stay.”
Dirty Mountain Dew Cream Soda reflects Mountain Dew's commitment to engaging fans through innovation and embracing cultural trends, PepsiCo Beverages Chief Marketing Officer Mark Kirkham says in a statement. “Dirty Mountain Dew takes the dirty soda trend to a whole new level,” he adds, “as only Dew can do.”
