TikTok Reveals the Top Food Trend of 2020
It should come as no surprise.
TikTok unveiled the Year on TikTok: Top 100, its annual peek into the top videos, memes, music, creators, voices of change and more that brought millions of people together over the past 12 months, and several food-related topics made the cut.
In fact, the TikTok team even broke the list down into categories and gave the top food recipes, trends and hacks of 2020 a rundown of their own — we’re talking doughnut cereal, those LOL-worthy Gordon Ramsay reacts videos and more. If nothing else, 2020 has taught everyone that they can whip up a tasty dish in under 60 seconds and convert basically any food into a new form of cereal.
Based on the data, it’s clear that users on the social media platform are obsessed with trendy foods and viral recipe videos. Furthermore, once the COVID-19 pandemic began and everyone basically morphed into a semi-professional chef, the TikTok food community came to the rescue and even flourished — interesting recipes, fresh takes on classic snacks and food hacks all helped keep people busy while staying socially distant.
For example, whipped coffee — a.k.a. dalgona coffee — nabbed the second spot on the list, likely because it’s both easy to make (you just whip equal parts instant coffee powder, water and sugar together really fast) and is pleasant to look at. Quarantine darling banana bread took the number three spot while the aforementioned doughnut cereal came in fifth.
