When it comes to what to pair with cereal, milk, while classic, may be for the unimaginative. A surprising number of people prefer orange juice on their morning cereal, a recent survey underwritten by Tropicana (of course!) has found.

An estimated 15 million Americans have tried orange juice on their cereal, according to the survey, conducted online and via email by Wakefield Research. That’s “the total populations of New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago combined,” Tropicana notes.

The survey also concluded that millions more Americans are willing to try O.J. on their cereal and that “half of the adults who poured O.J. over their cereal did so because they thought it … would taste good.” (Anyone’s guess why the other half did – maybe because they ran out of milk?)

“Orange juice on cereal. Some call it weird. Some call it breakfast. We . . . didn't even know it was a thing,” Tropicana admitted. “But turns out, there are totally normal people amongst us juicing up their cereal bowls.”

Apparently sensing an opportunity, Tropicana, which last fall produced an O.J.-compatible toothpaste, is poised to introduce what it says is the first breakfast cereal ever made specifically to pair with orange juice — and, the brand wryly allows, “maybe the last.”

The new O.J.-friendly cereal, Tropicana Crunch, is made for the “cereal curious” with honey almond clusters that are “crispy and ready to get citrusy,” according to Tropicana.

The cereal will not be sold in stores, but will be available online while supplies last starting Wednesday, May 4. (That’s National Orange Juice Day, for those who don’t have it marked on their calendars.)

Sure, a cereal made to pair with orange juice may not hold universal appeal, Tropicana concedes, but “whether you hate it or love it, you won’t know until you try it.”

The brand is urging those who try the cereal to share their thoughts on social media — using #TropicanaCrunch and tagging @Tropicana_Juices on Instagram or @Tropicana on TikTok.

O.J.-optimized Tropicana Crunch is certain to make a splash. We’d be down to try it. Long term though — call us stodgy — we’ll probably stick to milk.
