You Can Get a Free Doughnut at Krispy Kreme on the Day of the Real ID Deadline
The doughnut chain is easing the pain of this less-than-convenient occasion on May 7.

For years, there’s been posters at airports reminding travelers that the deadline to upgrade to a Real ID for TSA screening during domestic travel is quickly approaching. But as that deadline kept on being pushed back, a lot of travelers weren’t taking it all that seriously – until now, that is. The deadline is under a week away and travelers (not to mention the state DMVs) are feeling the pressure.
While no sweet treat can change that the Real ID deadline is indeed still Wednesday, May 7 (and the TSA promises it’s for real this time), one way to sweeten the day on this admittedly annoying occasion is that Krispy Kreme is offering free original glazed doughnuts. No ID required!

On Wednesday, May 7, anyone who stops by a Krispy Kreme location can score one free Original Glazed doughnut (called the OG doughnut for a reason) all day in shop or via drive-thru, limit one per guest, no purchase necessary.
Will any of this solve the need to upgrade to a compliant ID or the long waits at DMVs? No, not exactly. But it’ll make the day tastier!
And, for the record, for anyone who hasn’t been able to get a DMV appointment in time – they are swamped! – don't stress too much. There’s alternative compliant IDs that will also be acceptable, such as passports. You just may want to wait until after the rush has passed, and spend that day enjoying a free doughnut instead.
