The Girl Scout Cookie Lineup Has a New Member
And it’s gluten-free! (Scout’s honor.)

Thin Mints and Samoas. Tagalongs and Trefoils -- and don’t forget the Do-si-dos. These are all Girl Scout Cookie classics, the taste of childhood, for many of us.
Every once in a while, Girl Scouts of the USA, reaches out of the box to bring in a new cookie offering. It has just announced plans to do that in its 2019 lineup, introducing a new cookie for the first time in two years: Caramel Chocolate Chip.
The organization describes the new cookie on its website as “rich caramel, semisweet chocolate chips, and a hint of sea salt in a chewy cookie.” Sounds like a worthy new member of the Girl Scout Cookie troop – but it also has another distinctive feature: It’s gluten-free.
Another cookie in the lineup, the returning Toffee-tastic, which features golden toffee bits in a rich, buttery cookie and was introduced in 2015, is also gluten-free. Each of the two is being sold only “with limited availability in select areas,” according to a press release, but between the two “consumers in all markets will be able to enjoy a gluten-free offering … during the 2019 cookie season,” according to the organization.
“The Girl Scout Cookie Program plays a powerful role in developing financially savvy girl leaders,” GSUSA CEO Sylvia Acevedo said in a press release. “Girl entrepreneurs learn valuable interpersonal and business skills via the cookie program that help them become successful in their future careers, no matter what path they choose.”
So you can wear that as a badge of honor as you scarf down your cookies, both classic and gluten-free. Never mind the crumbs.
