How do you have energy to travel for Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and still do the other shows?
—Vicki Wulff, via Facebook
It mostly comes down to exercise, good sleep and a great team. I also have a whole regimen of a hot sauna-cold plunge. It is next-level amazing. I go into the sauna at 170 degrees for 20 minutes, then into the cold plunge at 36 or 37 degrees for three or four minutes. I do it after I exercise, sometimes twice a day. I often find myself jonesing for it!
Is the produce prewashed on Guy's Grocery Games, because I never see anyone washing it!
—Calvin Miller, via Facebook
Yes it is! The thing is, there are a lot of things that happen that people don't see because it's just not exciting TV. If you notice someone washing their hands, awesome, we encourage handwashing. But with the limited amount of time we have on air, we don't usually go to a wide shot of someone washing asparagus!
Besides eggs, what is a food you despise?
—Lori Miller, via Facebook
Beef liver—I can't do it. It's the minerality of it. I want to like it, I really do. I'm a cook and I want to like everything, but I just can't. Even when I smell it cooking, it's too much for me.
How "real" is Tournament of Champions? Do the contestants know anything in advance?
—@sapphire2874
One thing I can promise you: It's all real. If you saw the episode in the third season when my really good friend Madison Cowan was eliminated for not plating his food in time...that was the hardest thing to do, and in a lot of shows, they wouldn't have eliminated him. The only thing you don't see on air is that from the time when we spin the wheel until the time they start, there's a two-minute downtime to explain exactly what the ingredient is and what equipment they can use.
If you could only have one condiment, what would it be?
—Corrie Rowe, via Facebook
I'd have to go with soy sauce. Hot sauce is a close second though.
What would you request for your very last meal?
—Robin Hughes, via Facebook
Anything cooked by my favorite chefs and best friends, whatever their jam is. Everybody has their thing that they would make: Antonia Lofaso would make tagliatelle Bolognese. Rocco DiSpirito would make risotto. Jet Tila would make a Thai dish.
When was the last time you rocked your natural hair color?
—@milk.was.a.bad.choice_
Ummm, about an inch down I rock it all the time! The last time it was natural was right before I went on Food Network Star. When I won, an executive at Food Network walked up to me, pointed at me and whispered in my ear, "You had better get used to that hair color."
What's on your bucket list that you have yet to accomplish?
—@susantraficante
I want to tour Asia. I want to jump in the fountain at Caesars Palace. I want to see Flavortown grow into Flavor Universe. And I want to host SNL.
