For many of us, macaroni and cheese — especially Kraft Mac & Cheese — is pretty much the ultimate comfort food, satisfying our taste-of-childhood cravings. Soon it will assuage our adult desire for more sustainable packaging as well.
Kraft has announced that it is developing, testing and working to certify a new recyclable, fiber-based microwavable cup, set for release later in 2021 with a new twist on the beloved favorite — Kraft Mac & Cheese Shapes.
The innovative microwave-safe cup will employ a new direct-print technology to eliminate the plastic label with the goal of reducing plastic use and render it both recyclable and compostable in industrial composting facilities.
“Consumers are at the heart of everything we do and we know they’re looking for more sustainable packaging options without sacrificing the convenience or taste they love from Kraft Mac & Cheese,” Matt Carpenter, marketing director at Kraft Heinz, said in a news release. Carpenter added that the new cup design included input from Kraft Mac & Cheese fans who were passionate about the product — and the new packaging.
The new recyclable, compostable, microwavable packaging is part of Kraft’s broader push toward increased sustainability; the company has already eliminated artificial preservatives, flavors and dyes from the macaroni and cheese itself. And Kraft Heinz Company has pledged to make all of its product packaging 100% recyclable, reusable or compostable by 2025.
So by the end of the year, you can enjoy your microwavable Kraft Mac & Cheese with a little less environmental guilt.
