I didn't grow up with whitefish dip, but as soon as I moved to in NYC in 2001, I started shopping at a music store that used to be just a few doors down from the iconic Russ & Daughters Delicatessen. I went in for a childhood favorite of pickled herring and fell in love with all the fish dips offered. Whitefish dips are my favorite, but this is equally delicious using canned, smoked salmon or smoked cod. Also, feel free to leave out the serrano, but it truly matches well with the smoky fish, and just one won't hurt. I've made a sandwich out of this before with toast and plenty of thin cucumber slices or tomatoes from the garden, but it's great shared with dippables like bagel chips or artisan crackers.

It's not a backyard barbecue without baked beans, and this is a fun way to make it a Hawaiian-themed party. Serve up some drinks in tiki cups with umbrellas, easily found online or at the party store. Then kick back and enjoy baked beans that can be the whole story — there’s fruit, beans and ham!!

When you love a classic so much you look for other ways to enjoy it, you can kind of feel like you're caught up in a love affair. The honeymoon stage hasn't ended since my first smooshed PB&J in a lunchbox. I don't care how old I get, I will still stop down for a quick PB&J and chips for comfort. I like mine with seedless raspberry jam, so that's what I use here, but grape jelly would be great as well for this love affair.

Leave it up to the internet to make a classic recipe actually new and cool. This time around it's the simple frico chip, which is simply a crisp round of melted and caramelized cheese. I like them broken up over a salad or even in a burger as a crunchy cheese element. You can make them on the stovetop or bake them, and that's where this classic remake, started by social media, begins. Just adding one ingredient to the ride in the oven made it new again: the onion. One influencer featured it, and the next thing you know, everyone was putting their twist on this easy frico update, including me. I decided to add a few more things, and it turned into, sometimes, the best part of the pizza for me, the top!

I love pie and often find it hard to decide which pie to make, so why not make a quick and smaller version of the ones I want for the holidays? Don't forget the bliss of a fruit pie or tart during the winter holidays. All of the heavy meals deserve a bright ending, but for the traditionalist I've shared shortened versions of pumpkin and pecan. Multiply any of these fillings by four and enjoy a full sheet of flavor.

It's not the holidays without stewed greens. Growing up it was either collard or mustard greens, but it always involved a ham hock or some smoked meat to flavor the pot that simmered on low all day. Just a year ago I decided to free up space on the stove and try it in the slow cooker. I may never go back to the pot!

I seldom make appetizers, but if it can substitute as the entire meal, I'll do it! Samosas are perfect for a crowd or a lazy night grab from the freezer to fry up. Any time I make anything with wonton wrappers or egg roll wrappers, I know it's going to be assembly line prep, and freezing some for myself at a later time is always the move. I invite you to do the same here.
